EIU Old Main is a historic building located on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. It was originally built in 1899 as the main academic building on the campus and was named as Old Main. The building was designed by architect Joseph W. Royer in a neoclassical style and features a four-story tower with a clock and bell.
Over the years, the building has been used for various academic purposes, including classrooms, offices, and a library. It underwent several renovations and additions in the early 20th century, including the installation of an elevator, central heating, and air conditioning.
In 2006, Old Main was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a significant example of academic architecture in the state of Illinois and was recognized for its exceptional neoclassical style.
